Grandma’s
Heritage

By
Jarod Hinton, July 11th, 2006

Many
speak of heritage,

and
possessions passed to them.

They
inherit cars, and wealth…

Some
houses, deeds, and gems.

But
in my mem’ry I do have

a
simply awesome treasure.

A
heritage beyond those things;

My
inheritance without measure.

My
Grandma left here for me

a
Truth from God above.

She
showed me, more than told me,

Of
that Unconditional Love.

By
her example I did see

what
“loving always” means.

Her
affection had no condition.

She
was the Grandma of my dreams!

She
always smiled when I came near

My
face she’d take in hand.

Some
sweet word she’d speak to me

and
make me feel so grand.

Her
face would beam and she would say

We
are so proud of you.”

And
she’d say “God has something great

that
he wants you to do.”

When
she looked into my eyes

No
greater love I’ve seen.

She
made me want to be a better

man
than I’d yet been.

Grandma
left a heritage

for
me of love and joy.

And
I will treasure this great gift

more
than any house or toy.

My
inheritance is one

that
is full of faith and grace.

Given
me, in part, by one

Who
lovingly ran her race.

In loving memory of my Grandmother who passed away this last December.

  • Wow…how blessed you are to have such a heritage and special memories.  Grandmothers are indeed a gift from the Lord.  I did not know my Grandmother until much later in her life.  She passed away..um…..I think it has been almost four or five years ago.  The last few years of her life were hard, she was sick with many things.  But, God allowed me to spend time with her in the hospital and doing her hair.  It was a very special time – I was honored when asked to share at her memorial service.  Don’t ever take your memories and special treasures for granted!

    Thanks for sharing this!!!

  • This is a precious post, Jarod.  I love the pictures!  Thanks for sharing.  You got me thinking about my own great-grandmother who I was very close to.  People say I’m a lot like her, but I think that a compliment too high for me.  She was very dear as was your grandmother.  Thanks for encocuraging me to remember…

  • Bro. J., your thoughts have been transmitted so well in this lovely memorial. She was a beautiful lady; from her pictures, she seems to have had that radiance of spirit that told others Whose presence she lived in! Thank you for sharing it with us.

    “What joy ’twill be when we get over yonder;
We’ll join the throng around the glassy sea.
We’ll join our loved ones and crown Christ forever,
Oh this is just what Heaven means to me!”
