Comparisons
Here are the sermon notes from my sermon on Sunday. I trust that someone some where, some day, will read this and be challenged. I was surprised to see how serious comparisons are. We think of it as just a little thing that we struggle with, but when we compare ourselves to others, we are really coveting what they have. Can you say “breaking the Tenth Commandment?” I struggle with comparing my preaching with other preachers, and I was convicted to stop all comparisons. (Both the kind that makes me feel bad, and the kind that makes me feel good.)
God bless you today!
Jarod,
You have a bad link here. You have “Unwise Comparisons.doc” as your link but your file is saved as “Unwise Comparison.doc”…. not the “s” on the end. For those that come across this before he changes it just take out the “s” at the end of “comparisons” and it will work fine. Good points there bro. I always thought of it as a “yeah, yeah, I shouldn’t do that” kind of a thing you know? Kind of like speeding I guess… I know I shouldn’t do it…. but sometimes….. Ahemm… I’m off subject…. anyway….. um… yeah good stuff there.
Anyway, how is my favorite older brother?
Good one Jarod. Thanks for posting your sermons. I don’t always read them, but when I do they are helpful. 🙂 Love!!

I knew I should have checked the link. Thanks for catching it Matt! *link fixed*
jarod,
this is a place in my life where I am struggling on SO many fronts.
Thank you for posting this.
Please be in prayer for me.
Anytime bro…. well…. maybe not at three in the morning but give me a try anyway…. I might surprise you.
Yes siree! I think you are very right to bring to light that we may be breaking the 10th Commandment – this is big stuff! Thanks for sharing Jarod; this is a helpful reminder, and an encouragement to my heart.
Good sermon Jarod. I’m glad God gave you that lesson to preach on. What a huge challenge huh?!
Laura
Jarod, you’ve learned a valuable lesson for those of us who proclaim God’s word. Each of us has strengths and weaknesses — by His design. It’s easy to covet another’s strengths but in doing so we overlook the work of God in and through our unique abilities. Keep thanking God for all He can do for His glory through your ministry (see Ephesians 3:20-21).
Praying for you, Anna and the little one, Uncle Mark
Jarod. Great and biblical thoughts, to be sure. I would love to see you write these sermons out in paragraph narrative form. Might make chapters of a book someday, ya never know. Not that we would compare the book to anyone else’s, of course.
