I always wondered if the airbags would deploy
Sometimes over the past four years I have looked down at the “SRS” light on the dashboard of my ’95 Honda Accord and wondered (thinking it had something to do with the airbags) if they would deploy if I ever had an accident or just got bumped in the front. I imagined what it would be like to see them explode in my face, and how hard a hit it would take for them to inflate.
Well, some of my questions were answered on Tuesday morning. I still don’t know what the experience would be like, but I am confident that the airbags would deploy…because they did. My dear wife was hit by a driver not paying attention and hit Anna in the front left corner of our dear little Accord. The children were in the back seat, fastened in well. They were frightened, but otherwise fine. (Nothing the chiropractor couldn’t fix.)
My family is safe, and no serious injuries at all. But it has certainly made me realize how suddenly and unexpectedly life can forever be changed. Or taken. I am also more grateful for the protection that my Father in heaven provided for my family. A few feet different, a few seconds change, and things might have been much different.
The following photos are for your information and so the family can see how close I came to being a widower.
[slideshow]Thank the Lord for his blessings. More than likely, the car will be totaled completely. I am so grateful that everyone is safe. God is certainly gracious and loving.
Some would say that God allowing my car to be hit was an act of indifference at best, harsh meanness at worst. I say that even though our world is sinful and God allows bad things to happen, he uses those things, and even protects his children from them, in such a way so that those “evil happenings” ultimately accomplish his purposes for our lives. That is the “redemptive power” of the Lord, and one of the most remarkable things about the great High King, the LORD of lords, and the ONLY Master of the Universe!

Thank you for sharing the news and your reflections! How grateful we are that Anna and the children escaped unharmed! We know God watches over us continually. but much of the time we don’t really realize all that He is protecting us from. It is good to be reminded of the evidence of God’s care! Our hearts rejoice knowing He never takes His eyes off of His own! Praise the Lord! He is so so good! May the Lord bless you and your dear family! Hope we’re able to see them in person someday!
I hope that too. :o)
