My Tribute: Charles Glenn Hoerner
My grandfather, Glenn Hoerner, was the only Grandpa I ever knew. (My other Grandpa was killed before I was born.) He was one of the most faithful, consistent men I ever knew. He very seldom said profound things. He very seldom said much of anything. But by his actions he displayed the most admirable and valuable character a man can have. He was a man of untarnished integrity. He was a husband of the most faithful quality. He was a father cut from the most endearing cloth. He was a man who quietly loved and served those in his life.
For 92 years he lived on this earth, and I knew him for 30. I’ve heard others speak of him, and heard him speak of his own life. I’ve now been to his funeral. And with all that in mind I can honestly say that there is nothing… NOTHING I could point to in his life and say “Well, he really shouldn’t have done that.” I cannot point to a single part of his relationship to his wife or his children, or grandchildren, and be critical. In no way could I bring up anything and say “You know, he didn’t do everything right, but he was a good man over all.” Others may be able to say that, but I cannot. Friends, Glenn Hoerner was a great man! Period. No qualifications, no asterisks, no “except for this”. His life is a testimony of what great men do. They consistently do what is right. And he did. All the time.
When I imagine what a “good and faithful servant” of the Lord is, I think of my Grandpa. May we all live such a life. May we all be such a Christian.

Didn’t know your grandfather, but he sounds like someone I would have loved getting to know!
