The Undressing Begins…

We’ve had some very nice weather in our area lately, and with the warmer temperatures another rather troubling phenomenon begins. It’s the Yearly Undressing of the women in our community. No, it’s not some perverted hedonistic    ceremony of female objectification. It is the voluntary objectification that women and girls all over willingly submit to when they start wearing less and less clothing during the warmer months.

Now, some girls would simply claim that they are trying to stay cool, but I think that down deep they know better. I’ve come to believe that most girls know exactly what they are doing. They are trying to get attention and use their bodies to get it. Shorts that are way too short, shirts that are much too tight and don’t even make an attempt to cover cleavage…the list goes on and it has become not only a temptation, but an extreme annoyance, to myself. It is annoying because I have to work so hard to keep from looking where I shouldn’t. All day, pretty much every day…that get’s old ladies.

I’m pretty sure women don’t have a clue what their clothing, or lack there of, does to the mind and spirit of a man. Women need to recognize that what they think is “modest” may still be a major eye trap for a man. Maybe I’m just way off my rocker. Maybe I’m overly stimulated by my “eye-gate.” Perhaps you guys out there can verify the truth of what I say.

But please, especially to my Christian sisters, consider what your clothing does to your brothers. Many of you consistently tempt your brothers in Christ to lust after your body. Let me say that again… You are causing men to lust by the way you dress. You want attention, and are willing to lead your brothers into sin in order to get it. Or maybe you just do it out of a desire to seem better than the girls around you. I don’t really care why you do it, just that you stop it. Yes, yes, a man has a responsibility to guard his eyes, etc. But I’m tired of people giving so much focus on the responsibility of men to not lust that they neglect speaking of the responsibility of women to keep their clothes on.

There are two sides to this story, and I’d have to say that the following Scripture applies to both men and women when it comes to Christian responsibility in the area of modesty.

1 Thess. 4:3-7 – For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.

So please, think about this in a different way. The annual undressing of America will happen every year, but it shouldn’t be something we have to struggle with at church.
