Thoughts from Sunday…on Monday: Boldly through the veil
“To boldly go where no man has gone before!” These lines from the original Star Trek television series speak of exploration and adventure. But “boldly going into dangerous places” was a thought that occurred to me during our service on Sunday.
In Hebrews 10:16-22 the writer speaks of the New Covenant and how our “sins and iniquities are remembered no more.” It is because of this fact that he then says in verse 19-22 “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having a high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”
It is through the blood of Jesus that we now have access to that which had always been hidden by “the veil”, that mighty curtain that hid the presence of God from even the most holy of servants. Even the High Priest was only allowed into the “holy of holies” once a year, and only after the most detailed and sacred of ceremonies.
Yet now that veil is torn, and we as believers in Christ have access to the very presence of God. Not through our own righteousness, but instead by the blood of Christ do we have the right to stand BOLDLY in the holy throne room of an Almighty God. Such a precious gift! Let us then “draw near” to his side, in full assurance of faith. See, when we accept and believe that Christ has really delivered us from our sins, that they are removed and cleansed, then it gives us assurance, confidence…boldness in his presence.
Some pretty awesome thoughts from Hebrews.
